We all have our own weaknesses and mine just happen to include chocolate, red wine (oh, when do I get to sip that sweet nectar again?!) and a good investment handbag. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t interested in fashion and I fully blame my love for investment handbags on my mother. She has great taste when it comes to a good bag and always had me look at it as an investment.

Although my love for them has always been tried and true, my taste in handbags has changed dramatically over time as I’ve grown up. I’ve really moved away from labels, logos and patterns that scream designer and now prefer a good understated bag with beautiful leather, a cool structure and a classic design. I’ve also learned to scale down! I used to always be on the hunt for my next bag but quickly realized I would always be reaching for the same ones, leaving the others collecting dust.

As much as I love having options, I am a real creature of habit and will always reach for those same few bags so investing in a few classic neutral pieces is my best avenue. I thought I would share a few tips I follow when searching for the perfect bag and some exciting news on a brand I love and their new Spring collection!

Choose High Quality: Although some may argue differently, most bags that are a tad more costly are that way because of their quality and construction. As someone who carries a bag a lot, it’s important for it to be made well so it can last a lifetime!

Pick A Neutral Color: As much as I love a bright color or pop of pattern, handbags aren’t the best place to make those statements. Some of my biggest handbag regrets have been when I didn’t stick to a neutral color!

Keep It Structured: A clean and structured bag will always stand up to the test of time longer than the alternative. No one likes a saggy bag especially when you are like me and throwing your whole life into it!

Avoid Logos: Like I said previously, I have really steered clear of any large identifiers. I think they will date a bag and make it so much harder to pair with any outfit. There are always exceptions to the rule but in general it easier to make a bag last longer without any overtly obvious branding.

A brand that I have been carrying for a while now is Welden! I’m sure you’ve seen their bags on me multiple time like here, here, here and so many more. They make an amazing classic yet edgy bag with the perfect structure and signature cross weave pattern. I have come to love the designs and am so excited for their new Spring line to launch at both Shopbop and Nordstrom!

The new line stays true to their original design but introduces new light colors, fun new structured lines and bigger sizes! Since mom life is about to be my life, I was happy to see this larger tote in their line sheet. It’s big enough for me to fit everything from my laptop to snacks and soon diapers inside and also has a cross body strap which is a deal breaker for me these days.

I picked some of my favorite styles from the new line below, I mean how cute is this? Let me know if you have any questions at all, I couldn’t reccomend them more!

I have been wearing this tote constantly since I got my hands on it and it was perfect for my work/dinner date last week. When the weather was cooperating, I was able to throw on this adorable peplum tee and jeans to work at the coffee shop all day before meeting my girlfriends for dinner. Since my look was so neutral I thought it would be fun to add a pop of color with this tassel drop earrings. I know I had mentioned a few weeks ago how spring has inspired me to add more color to my accessories and I just can’t get enough fun earrings!

Hope you guys are having a wonderful week and make sure to reach out with any questions about Welden. I am so excited for this new spring line and think you guys will love the product!

I’m not familiar with this brand- thanks for sharing!! I also have a handbag obsession I got from my mom and grandma. It switched to a backpack obsession when I had a baby, but thankfully 1.5 years in it is slowly moving back to handbags (or at least handbags with crossbody options) as I can get away with carrying less every day.

  4. What a gorgeous bag! I totally agree on keeping it neutral. I always want to try a fun color but am so happy that I have a neutral instead to get more use out of it.

  6. I LOVE the details of this bag!! And yes, I think sticking to a natural color for an investment bag is key! SO much more wear out of it!

  7. Always willing to invest in a few things, and a good bag is definitely on that short list!

These are some awesome suggestions for handbag shopping. I’ve yet to purchase a designer bag, or really any “high quality” bag for myself, but now I know exactly what to look for when I start searching for the perfect one! I love this particular bag and the fun textured design!

  11. I’m loving everything about this outfit, Shaheen! The hem of your jeans is perfection. I also agree with buying bags in neutral colors, especially larger handbags. Sometimes the smaller crossbodies are fun in different colors, but anything that can double as a work bag is best in a neutral color. Great tips!

  12. That first paragraph is literally my life story as well . I’m such a “bag lady” and I got that directly from my Momma! You have wonderful taste in bags! I’m loving the color and structure of the one you’re sharing today!
