As someone who loves a fun pop of color or a bold print I am learning that everyday basics are sometimes best. Last week, I noticed a lot of my recent looks had been blue when I glanced through my Instagram. As someone who thought they didn’t really like blue you can imagine my surprise. Over time everyone’s style changes and evolves and I think mine definitely has. I find myself reaching for the same jeans, tees & basics only longing for bolder pieces on occasion.

I guess it’s all part of my own style evolution and I have to say I like it. It’s so much more important to get rid of pieces in your wardrobe that you don’t find yourself wearing and invest in more basics you can wear again and again. Sometimes it’s hard to throw the notion to ‘not wearing something again’ out the window but most of my pieces are ones I’ve had for years and recycle through my wardrobe in new ways.

What are some of your favorite staples? I am still on the search for my favorite tee’s although I just snagged a few from Old Navy that I love. I am also a loyal Rag & Bone jean girl – they are on the pricey side but I have never found anything that fits my curves more perfectly. They also have a good rise to them that doesn’t make me feel like my jeans are sliding off my behind when I sit down (why is that so annoying to me?!)

This Lou & Grey denim dress has quickly become a new favorite staple. If you have ever shopped with the brand before you can imagine how amazingly soft this material is. It also doubles as a trench! You can unbutton it completely and use it to layer especially during this crazy weather we are having. I’ve worn it as a trench with black jeans and a stripe tee and gotten so many compliments on it.

I also finally found a tote! If you know me you know I have been in search of a tote for so long. My trusty Longchamp has survived so many years and is fine for work but not in the best shape to take anywhere else. I wanted something that was easy to carry on my shoulder and could fit everything in it especially my laptop. I found this grey one at Nordstrom and loved the texture and button closure – it’s under $50 and has already served me so well. If you are in the market I highly recommend it!

I hope you guys are having an great start to the week and don’t forget we all have Cinco de Mayo to look forward to! You can check out some of my favorite recipes & cocktails to prepare, cheers!

I am definitely in the same boat! I am gravitating toward basics more and more, but of course there are still days where only a bold print will do it for me 🙂

I just stocked up on J. Crew Factory Studio t-shirts! (might have gone a little overboard with four, but the price was right and I know I’ll be living in them) https://factory.jcrew.com/womens-clothing/knits_tees.jsp

Basics are definitely the best sometimes, especially when you’re running out of time and have to get dressed within the minute, safe to go basic then! Lovely denim dress! Xx
