Tips To Help Save Your Dry Winter Skin

spring beauty tips

When the seasons change, especially after the dry winter months I try to revamp my skin regimen. A beauty overhaul was something I used to neglect when seasons would change, but as time has gone on I have tried to take better care of my skin and realized the importance. There are a few products that I try to switch out and thought I would share what and why, plus some new finds I have been loving!

Moisturizer: After under moisturizing during the winter months due to the dry Chicago winter and harsh wind, I need a moisturizer that locks in to my skin. Since I am currently pregnant I try to watch the ingredients but some great all natural elements that help keep me moisturized are Sunflower Oil and Vitamin E!

Exfoliate: As crazy as that sounds after winter, I try to exfoliate all year. I usually limit it to a few times a week to help keep my complexion balanced. I usually start body brushing again around this time too, which I’ve talked about before here. Especially now while pregnant, the body brushing has helped a ton. Since I am lathering on avocado oil and cocoa butter twice a day it helps keeps the oils from building up on my skin and feeling heavy.

I just started using a few St.Ives products that I am loving too and thought I would share. They are made with 100% natural extracts which I love since I’m trying to stick to cleaner beauty products in general. The Oatmeal and Shea Butter body wash gives me the perfect amount of moisture and refreshment. The Apricot Oil Facial Scrub is a little bit stronger and perfect to exfoliate, but I would reccomend only using it 3-4 times a week! You will totally notice a difference after just a few days. If you are like me, you may be worried about using oils on your face. I used to think they would saturate my skin and make me break out but it’s quite the opposite. The right kind of oils are so healthy for your skin and I have totally noticed a change!

SPF: Don’t forget to amp up your sunscreen! Since we’ll all hopefully be enjoying more sunshine than normal soon, it’s a good idea to not only use a moisturizer with a built in SPF but also an additional product when you plan on being outside. I always try to use one specifically intended for my face and neck and one for my body. Also, make sure there are no harsh chemicals in their formulas!

If you are a little lost on what skin type you have or which products are best for you, that’s totally understandable. You can actually visit CVS.com/BeautyBeginsHere to take a little quiz that will tell you which cleansing products are right for you before you pop into the store to shop! Plus, right now you can buy one St.Ives Body Wash get one free at CVS till 04/16 and through 04/23 you can buy one get one 50% on any Dove, Simple, POND’s or Vaseline products!

  1. Winter is so tough on my skin! I tend to be more dry than oily, so I’m always trying to exfoliate, moisturize and do anything possible to make my skin feel good after a harsh, cold winter. I’ve been using clay masks quite a bit this spring to help give my skin a little boost. I’ve also been using a sugar scrub all over. Thanks for the tips! Soon it will be time for lots of sunscreen! 😉

  2. winter is so tough on my skin, but so is this weird in between weather where it goes from being 80 one day to 40 the next! Exfoliating always helps keep my skin balanced and glowing! Great tips!

  3. I use a St. Ives scrub I love. Winter can be tough on skin! I am constantly moisturizing too.
