well, summer is getting closer which means i’m trying harder to be healthy and exercise. it’s not easy that’s for sure and one of my favorite weekend activities is brunch. since trevor had a week left to study for boards (he finished yesterday, yay!) and wouldn’t go out anywhere with me i thought it would be fun to make a ‘make your own waffle’ bar for us at home.

these whole wheat waffles combine oats and banana for moisture and i stick to the real sugar. there are only a few ingredients and everything was already laying around my house which is the best. you could  substitute any flavor greek yogurt you like and switch up the toppings too!

i just purchased this Oster waffle maker and couldn’t be happier with it for the price. i did an intense Amazon search through reviews and this seemed like the best one at a lower price point that gave the waffles some crunch which we like.

just combine the ingredients and pour into your waffle maker as instructed. we used sliced bananas and pure maple syrup to top but i think peanut butter would have been amazing or even fresh berries and some cool whip!

let me know if you try them out & cheers to DIY brunches at home!

ingredients:

1 1/2 cups white whole wheat flour

1/3 cup rolled oats

1 cup (5 oz)  Oikos vanilla greek yogurt

1 cup milk

1 ripe banana, mashed

3 tablespoons butter, melted

2 large eggs, beaten

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

3 teaspoons baking soda

These look so insanely good! My excuse for never cooking at home is that our kitchen is too small, but a waffle maker can be stored away, right?! 😉

Hubby loves waffles! I’m pretty sure if there was a food pyramid of his favorite foods, waffles would be the biggest section at the bottom! Bookmarking and saving this recipe — it’s the perfect way to make his unhealthy snack a little healthier!
