How I Tackled Our Baby Registry

Mar 3, 2017

Saying I was overwhelmed when I attempted to register would be an understatement. I distinctly remember siting down ‘to register’ a dozen times before I ever added anything to our baby registry! Having everything you need to prepare for a baby is a feat in of itself, and on top of that there are a billion options for each product.

Do I buy the most expensive? Do I need organic? Is this the safest?

So many questions leaving you utterly confused. Everyone and every baby is different but I thought I would compile a list of general must have’s and what we chose for ours! I didn’t include anything for our nursery on our registry. I really wanted to decorate the room myself and picking out items that far in advance would have been asking way too much from me.

This list obviously doesn’t encompass everything you need, but is a great starting point and something I wish I had when I was sitting down to pick items. I also received this book from my friend Amy a few weeks ago and it has been life changing. You can reference any product and see the best options at all price points as well as unbiased reviews. They update it each year but I think a large bulk of it stays the same!

One thing I also made sure to get beforehand was the Dock A Tot! I had seen write ups about it and heard so many great things from friends with newborns so I wanted to give it a try. I’m excited because I actually teamed up with Dock A Tot to offer a discount code for any mommies to be or current mommies out there that have been wanting to order one! Just follow this link to redeem your code and you can save $10 off any product. I picked the solid white standard size but have heard great things about the Deluxe option for babies a little older. I will definitely update you on how we like it once Baby T arrives!

Hope this helps a little and as always if you have any suggestions please send them my way! Happy Friday!

  1. It seems so confusing! Looks like you got a great handle on things! You can check out safekids.org for lots of car seat tips on proper fit and installation. 🙂

Oh my gosh- love your registry. We got so many of those same things when our little guy was born- makes me nostalgic to see yours. Can’t say enough good things about the Uppa baby stroller. And especially with the gorgeous updates they did in terms of colors and materials…makes me want to upgrade (my husband would kill me). But honestly- they apparently made it a little lighter, and the wheels a little more narrow- which are my only too complaints about it. Having that huge underneath part is a must if you walk a lot in Chicago- we love to walk to the grocery way more than we ever did before because of that stroller. We also got that mattress and I definitely suggest their waterproof pad cover–it’s come in handy a few times. Last thing we loved was the puj foldable thing for bathing in the sink. We used that for the first few months – and I especially loved being up that high with him when he was so little and we were SO nervous. Hope you keep enjoying all this stuff- its the best and I can’t imagine that it’s ever as exciting as it is with your first. 🙂

    • Aww thank you Beth!!! Okay awesome – apparently this new one is supposed to be even lighter than the last which is great because we have stairs! Oh so good to hear about the mattress, I was so overwhelmed by the options. My brother and sister in law just gave us a waterproof cover so we will have to use that! Thank you so much – it’s starting to sink in our little guy will be here in just a few months 🙂

  3. Can’t wait to see how the babies room turns out!

  4. Thank you so much for this, Shaheen! I am due at the end of July and keep putting the registry off because it feels so overwhelming! Even the lists you can get on other sites overwhelmed me, but this is a manageable place to start. I think it’s so hard because it’s like entering a totally new realm. Wedding registries were a bit daunting too, but at least you’re already familiar with the concept of what you’re looking for in plates! 🙂
