Now that it’s crunch time and Christmas is literally right around the corner, I thought I would share a local favorite for all my Chicago people! Online shopping is kind of out of the question at this point—I mean, I’m not sure I would even trust an overnight delivery. The Roosevelt Collections Shops are one of my favorite spots in the city for a day out with the family or dinner and a movie with Trevor, and is perfect this time of year to get any of your last minute shopping done. Last-minute shoppers can rejoice with free, underground parking in a massive garage with plentiful spots (unheard of in the city, etc.) for up to 90 minutes with in-store validation!

Pro Shopper Tip: If you plan to park, enter the garage on Wells Street for a quick way in and out! It’s typically less busy than the plaza/Roosevelt Rd. entrance!

I first discovered the shops a few years ago when my brother and sister in law originally moved to the South Loop. It was just a few minutes from their old place and so easy for us to walk or drive to. They had great food options, tons of clothing stores and some other great finds and if you happen to live in the area you know you can get almost anything done there.

If you’re not familiar with it, let me explain. It has an outdoor shopping center feel but a lot of out of the box accommodations! First up, tons of workout options. I loved this when I would stay at my brothers because I could workout, grab breakfast and a cup of coffee and then run my errands and even get a little shopping done. Speaking of coffee, the Bridgeport Coffee shop that is located in the center of the shopping area is adorable. They have some tables inside in case you’re hanging around but make a great cup of coffee that’s the perfect shopping companion when it’s cold outside. They also have an INSANE movie theatre, the Showplace Icon Theatre, showing the new Star Wars movie. We used to see movies there all the time since they have a full lounge area with food and beverages. The Lobby Lounge on the second floor has everything you could possibly want. It’s much more than your average movie theatre experience, trust me.

So,  back to our shopping day! Last weekend Trevor, Zain and I headed down to spend the afternoon and get some serious shopping done. I had ordered some stuff for my mother in law that didn’t end up arriving in time so we first swung by The Container Store. That may sound weird but she’s a lot like me in the fact that we like to be organized and they had the cutest stocking stuffers! We then swung by Old Navy because it’s where I get so much of Zain’s clothing and snagged a few extra holiday outfits for him. Now that he’s started solids he tends to have a lot more outfit changes than before, so I just want to be prepared.

After we snagged our goods it was nice to have a place to just walk around while being able to pop in and out of stores to warm up. The trouble with Chicago’s winter is it can make you stir crazy, especially with a baby. The shops have become the perfect place for me to go with Zain that I don’t have to worry about him getting too cold but he can still enjoy getting out and breathing some fresh air!
