Happy Friday y’all! We are in full recovery mode over here since we celebrated my birthday last night. Thank you for all the sweet messages and notes—it was truly appreciated. I was happy to be home and enjoy a fun dinner out with friends while my parents watched Zain. As for today’s post, it’s all about basics.

Our last in Portland was bittersweet. I woke up so anxious to get home to Zain but tried to block it out and make sure to soak up this last afternoon with Trevor. We had saved two of the things we were most excited about for that day since we never got around to them on Sunday!

We headed over to Division St to wander for the day. Interestingly enough our Lyft driver told us no one refers to areas in Portland by neighborhoods but rather by the streets. I guess coming from Chicago we are so used to differentiating areas and hot spots by neighborhood name we assumed it was the same everywhere.

If you happen to visit Portland, definitely check out this area. There are tons of cool shops, boutiques and spots to eat! We had heard about Pok Pok from several friends and since my love for Thai food runs deep, I knew we had to try it. The restaurant is adorable and has this great indoor/outdoor seating. We grabbed some beers and dove right in! Everything we ordered was good: the spicy wings, glass noodles and steak salad. The dish I was least intrigued by was the glass noodles and it ended up blowing everything else out of the water. It was fresh, delicious and still spicy at the end so naturally we devoured it.

After lunch we decided to walk down to Salt and Straw and indulge ourselves. The people working behind the ice cream were some of the happiest people I’ve ever met. Maybe because they get to eat ice cream all day?! We sampled a ton of flavors and ended up getting the sea salt and almond brittle in their homemade waffle cone and I still dream about it now. I’m crossing my fingers they come to Chicago.

Since we were going to be walking around all day, I threw on this new oxford I just bought. I actually bought it for ease of nursing when I’m out but when it arrived it was so soft I’ve been wearing it constantly. I decided to knot it and pair it with some black jeans and my loafers. This saddle bag and loafers are my go to’s when I travel because they are chic but so comfortable at the same time.

I loved how we spent that last afternoon in Portland before we flew out but trust me when I say I was ready to get home to my baby boy!
