How I’ve Been Eating Healthy On The Go

It’s no secret that having a newborn will definitely limit your free time. Before giving birth I was hitting the gym 3-4 times a week, eating healthy during the week and trying to sneak in fruits and vegetables whenever I could. Since giving birth, oh how things have changed

I barely have time to think about what to eat and am just grabbing food out of the fridge when I can. I haven’t been to the grocery or even thought about cooking and as a result been eating far less healthy. Since I am still not medically cleared to work out again yet, this had me feeling super lagged and unhealthy. I realized last week I needed to make some changes and although I won’t necessarily have time to prepare everything I did before, I wanted to make some small changes that would allow me to keep healthy options on hand.

Keep Healthy Snacks In Your Bag: Stocking my diaper bag with dried fruit and nuts has helped me resist picking up fries or candy while I’m out and too hungry to think. It takes a little bit more preparation but add some snacks to your grocery list and it will save you in the end!

Fuel Up On Protein: In the beginning I was eating a lot of empty calories by grabbing whatever looked delicious and was close. Muffins, bagels and chips all tasted great but weren’t giving me any added protein. I would find myself hungry just a few hours later and snacking again. Pack each meal with a good amount of protein to keep you full for longer.

Research Healthy Drive Thru Options: Nothing is easier than swinging through a drive thru, which is why so much of America eats fast food daily. Unfortunately, much of what is served isn’t fresh or good for you so do a little research and know where to go and what to order.

Enter Wendy’s salads. Although I would love to grab my own fresh produce each week and chop and create my own salads at home, that’s just not a feasible option at this time. Being able to swing by the Wendy’s down the street and being able to grab a fresh salad has become a lifesaver. I recently popped into the store to go behind the counter with the staff to learn about their new flavors and how they prepare their salads each morning.

They start with a fresh head of iceberg and a variety of produce and hand wash and chop all the ingredients. It’s so nice to know that these ingredients are brought in fresh each week and never frozen or prepackaged. They have 6 new flavors that are both innovative and delicious and my favorites would have to be the Power Mediterranean and Fresh Mozzarella Salad. The quinoa in the Power Mediterranean keeps me full all afternoon and the mozzarella is to die for. After not eating soft cheese for nine months, I can’t get enough of this one!

It was so reassuring and refreshing to see how Wendy’s creates these salads and I had such a great time with the staff! You guys need to try them out and let me know what you think – they are a busy mom on the go’s lifesaver!
