What I Ordered and Loved From Able

Aug 16, 2021

Good morning and happy MONDAY!

Tomorrow is the big day (Zain’s first day of school) and it just randomly happened that Trevor had the day off today. So, we are dropping Zahra off with my mom and taking Zain to paint pottery and out to lunch which he asks to do all the time! I’m so excited for him to begin a new school year but would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little emotional about it too. I just can’t believe he’s already so big and starting his school journey.

As for today’s post I wanted to get this up as soon as possible because I am so excited about these new pieces. So, a little back story: my friend Jess and Ailsa have been raving about Able for months now. I was intrigued by the pieces but just hadn’t gotten around to really diving into the brand or ordering anything. Well, a few weeks ago I was online searching for a new denim jacket because mine is from college and just a little too tailored for me now. I came across theirs on a google search and it was exactly what I was looking for so I decided to order and try out some of their other pieces at the same time! I wish I could report that I sent some back but for once, I kept every piece.

I think the brand and their mission is really amazing and wanted to include a little more info surrounding that for you all because I think you will find it inspiring as well!

  • The have a key focus on ethical fashion and one of their core missions is to employ and empower women as a solution to end poverty.

  • ABLE started with scarves! They trained Ethiopian women coming out of the commercial sex industry to make scarves and after their initial success they have grown into a larger lifestyle brand!

  • Women comprise 95% of the staff at ABLE and they are committed to making sure that they are compensated fairly.

  • They spent three years developing their own evaluation system—called ACCOUNTABLE—which evaluates their manufacturing partners on safety, equality, and wages.

  • Their jewelry is all made in-house in Nashville, TN, and their leather goods, clothes, and shoes are made by manufacturing partners in Ethiopia, Mexico, Brazil, and India.

I will break down the pieces I ordered below in detail and if you have any questions at all, feel free to leave them in the comments or send me a DM! They were also kind enough to send over a code to save you 20%!!! Use code ‘SHAHEEN20‘ at checkout and let me know what you think!

The Merly Jacket

Okay, I am not trying to be overdramatic but I think every woman needs this denim jacket. It is SO SOFT in the best way possible and I personally think it has the right amount of distressing to look casual but still classic. I opted for the original version and am 5’8 but they do have a longer style that could work if you are looking for some more trendy and oversized. I think it runs TTS and I am in a medium so there is plenty of room for sweaters underneath or if I want to throw it over a dress! If you snag one thing from today’s post I can not recommend this enough

The Margaret Mule

These mules really impressed me! When I originally saw them on the site I was kind of torn but ordered because I have really been wanting a leather mule for fall. Something a little more tailored I could wear to work! I was shocked at how comfortable the leather was and loved the way the design looked on my feet. They are available in black but I think this deep brown is where it’s at. I originally ordered on the lower side of my size range and returned them for the larger so if you are in between sizes I would err on the larger side! These would be great with a midi skirt, jeans and a sweater or dress pants and a top at work.

The Graphic Tee

I ordered this to compare to my Bing tee because it is by far my most worn shirt! I loved that this was the same faded black color and that the sleeves came folded up. I fold my Bing tee every time I wear it so that was just a little detail I loved! I have to say, this is insanely soft and if you are into graphic tees I will be wearing this all fall and winter. Since this seemed like it was made to be oversized, I went with a small and like the fit!

The Mae Tee

Okay, this was the one piece Jess said I had to order and she wasn’t wrong. I know it’s impossible to find a good white shirt that isn’t see through or fall apart in the wash. I currently wear the Madewell whisper tee and I love it but it is see through and very casual feeling. I don’t mind because I wear a nude bra but it’s definitely not something I can dress up or wear to the office. I would say this is your solution if you are looking for a more sophisticated white top that you can’t see through, feels more luxe and can dress up or down. You could easily pair this with a skirt or dress pant in the office! Runs TTS, I’m in a small.

The Caesar Stud Earring

I also meant to take a closer up shot of these amazing earrings but you can see them in the photo above! I ordered both the earring and ring because if you know me, you know I am a sucker for dainty gold jewelry. I have told this story a thousand times but I tore my right earring hole when I was younger trying to shove an Indian gold back earring into it. Therefore, I only wear really lightweight studs in my ears and am always on the hunt for new pieces that would work. I think these look even more expensive in person than they did on the site!

The Alem Backpack

This was something I picked up because I had heard great things about it from so many people and I was REALLY tired of my diaper bag 🙂 I have been using the Fawn diaper bag I purchased before Zain arrived and it just wasn’t functioning well for what I needed any longer. However, I didn’t want to invest in a new ‘diaper bag’ since I am done having kids and Zahra is one so I decided to go with a backpack that had multiple compartments and so far it’s been great. There are two huge pockets in the back that I seperate for the kids and myself. I can keep diapers, snacks, wipes and such in one and my laptop, sweater, planner in the other. I also like that it has an inner picket and a front pocket I can stash hand sanitizer and masks in. One other huge bonus is that it is very gender neutral so Trevor doesn’t mind carrying it!

The Neva Long Cardigan

I was kind of off the long cardigan wagon for a while and had given my mom most of mine. This caught my eye online because it had a thicker more casual vibe and I loved the detailing. I opted for the dark hue and think I’ll get a a lot of use out of it in the fall! Runs TTS, I’m in a small.

The Caesar Ring

This is the matching ring I snagged and am so excited about. I shared that I lost my wedding band and another ring my parents gave me during quarantine sadly so this is now taking the place of one of them. I’m tempted to get another and stack them since it is so dainty and pretty!

Hope that info helps in case you had been thinking of trying out the brand and remember to use ‘SHAHEEN20’ if you snag anything to save the 20%!
