Celebrate Friendship

Apr 18, 2016

I know I mentioned how important it is to celebrate friendship a few weeks back and I’m so happy to talk more about it on the blog today. My family & friends are the most important people in my life and I’m lucky enough to consider my family some of my best friends. With Mother’s Day coming up I was excited to team up with Jewelry TV to chat about my best friend and giveaway a stunning pair of diamond earrings!

My relationship with my mother has gone through so many stages as we have both grown up but she has and always will be my best friend. Although my brother Omar is in close competition with her I don’t think he would be into the earrings! I was sad my mom wouldn’t be visiting till the next week because I would have loved to shoot these pictures with her – although I’m not sure she would have, ha!

As I have gotten older some of my friendships have faded & some new ones have come into my life. Everyone evolves and sometimes people may not be growing together and that’s okay. I used to think if I wasn’t super close to everyone I used to consider a ‘best friend’ I had done something wrong or was a bad friend. As I’ve grown up I’ve realized it’s okay for friendships to change and just because you don’t speak to someone as often as you used to doesn’t mean there isn’t love there. It’s so special to maintain those friendships with people you grew up with and can reminisce about your awkward years and all the crazy thing you did in high school (that you blocked out but they remember) It’s also wonderful to make new friends at later stages in life and see those grow into some of your closest friends.

I truly believe you get what you put into relationships and that goes for friends. I am so lucky to have so many wonderful people in my life and it’s such a great reminder as mother’s day rolls around how important it is to celebrate them!

I decided to wear something that reminded me of my mom and her classic style mixed with my funky edge. My mom first introduced me to white jeans and although I am still up in the air on whether I love them or not, I fell in love with the way they looked with this blush off the shoulder top. My go to black Rag & Bone jeans quickly became my favorite last fall so I snagged the almost identical pair in white and love the fit. I paired it with this fun (I know, again) blush off the shoulder top that is insanely soft and will quickly become a summer staple for me.

Now, let’s chat about these beautiful diamonds. I am more of a stud girl myself and loved how these were delicate but a little more complicated than just studs. The diamonds are so sparkly and I love that they shipped in no time at all. My mom is a total diamond girl (I think that may even be an understatement) so I was excited to grab these for her for Mother’s Day. The best news is that Jewelry TV is offering a pair to a reader of mine & it’s so easy to enter!

My best friend, my sister, recently moved to LA and I miss her dearly. She makes me laugh constantly, knows what I’m thinking and even miles away ends up wearing the same outfits as me. I’m blessed to have had my best friend born into my family.

My best friend and I started at the same college together 15 years ago. Today, I’m so blessed to call him my husband & partner in parenthood. It’s the patient, forgiving, and loving friendship that carries us through all the highs and lows. I’m a very lucky girl!

  9. SO SO SO pretty, Shaheen! And completely agree that while friendships change over time, it doesn’t mean that they’re still not important and special and wonderful. They’re just different!

Have I mentioned how lucky I am to have you as a friend? Even if we met in our 30s, hehe. OMG. Who are we…

Omg I love that top! Well, the whole outfit just goes so well together. You have exceptional taste. 🙂 I wish I could wear white pants but they’d just blend in haha. And holy gorgeous earrings!!! I have 2 best friends my age that I’ve known from the age of 11 and 14, and I also consider my mom my best friend. I’ve always been able to tell her anything and I hope I can have the same relationship with my own daughter.
