4 Ways To Break Up Your Workday

Feb 24, 2017

I love my work from home days, don’t get me wrong. Being out of the dental office on Wednesday’s is the perfect break from my otherwise mundane work week and time for me to really focus on the blog and the million other responsibilities that seem to pile up. How does always seem to happen?!

However, when I started working from home I had a lot to learn. I’ve spent my whole life in a structured classroom and then in an office, so working on my own and staying motivated proved to be more difficult than I had imagined. I’ve gotten into a pretty great groove now and thought I would share some of the tips that have kept it exciting and productive for me!

Switch Up Your Atmosphere: Although I love my home office situation, it’s good to break up the monotony of your work environment.  After a few weeks of working from home and sitting at this desk, I needed to get out! Luckily, there are so many great work spots in our neighborhood like Americano 2211, La Colombe and Tom’s that I never needed to travel far! No matter where you are, try to find a coffee shop or even a cute book store to post up at for an afternoon to get some fresh air.

Find A Friend: The best advice I ever received! In the beginning stages of developing and launching the blog, I always associated ‘work dates’ with a lack of productivity. I figured it would be a waste of time and I would get little to nothing done. Wow, have I been proven wrong! Although, yes there are some diversions when you’re around friends there is also valuable advice being exchanged, a constant soundboard for your ideas and someone to help you brainstorm! I’ve grown so much from my friends and our workdays together are precious to me now.

Order Yourself A Fun Lunch: Whether you work from home or not, lunch is always a highlight in an otherwise mundane work day. At the dental office I usually try to pack a lunch – I’m always on the go, eating between appointments and never really have time to enjoy a meal so I don’t need anything fancy.

However, on Wednesday’s when I work on the blog all day I love treating myself to a healthy and exciting lunch. It’s a great time to try new restaurants and usually if we are working at mine or Blair’s house, we can always find something to order. We used to go back and forth on websites and to be honest, never knew what was a better deal.

Enter, the Bootler website.

Bootler is an online food and alcohol delivery search engine that does the work for you! You can search based on restaurant, location or type of food you want and see which avenue has the fastest delivery, lowest price and is most convenient. Once you enter your order, you can see the options for delivery on the bottom right and click on whichever is the best option for you. It will then direct you to that site to complete the order, simple! It works the same for alcohol and you can order everything at once making it much easier.  Can’t wait till I can add some wine to my order πŸ˜‰

Last week, we searched for something in our area with good salad options. We were both craving a Caesar salad and this healthy version from Beatrix was amazing. Greek yogurt dressing and tiny whole wheat crumbles added the perfect crunch! The veggie hummus was an added bonus and the food came so quickly.

Do you guys look forward to lunch as much as I do? If you are in Chicago, make sure to check out the Bootler website and on their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages and let me know what you think! You can also save $10 on your next order with code GOBOOTLER!

Unwind With A Workout: Whether it’s before, after or in between my workday I love treating myself to a fun workout class on my ‘work from home’ days. Despite being busy, it helps me to break up the day and get in a good sweat session. I try to make it to something more exciting then my normal gym routine. A new yoga, barre or spin class is just what I need and something that I normally wouldn’t be able to make with my office hours.
