How To Pack For A Weekend Getaway

weekend packing tips

After our recent trip to Arizona I have been brainstorming the best way to pack for another weekend getaway. Since I foresee far less free time in my near future, I’ve tried to narrow my packing down to an exact science. With summer on the horizon and a few hopeful family trips with our baby boy I thought I would break down what has worked for me and try to get all the tips from mom’s on how to travel with babies!

Choose Smart Luggage

I try not to over pack (try being the keyword) so choosing the right piece of luggage for the occasion is the first hurdle. I always try to stick to a carry on simply because a duffle can get tiring to carry on your shoulder. Regardless of whether I’m flying or not, I love a good hard case roller suitcase and Marshalls has a ton of options! I found everything from hard to soft cases, printed to plain and large to small. I ended up choosing a hard case hoping it would prevent too much wear and tear and limiting me from over stuffing it!

Limit Your Accessories

I’m not a huge accessories girl in general but for some reason when I pack to go on vacation I am inclined to throw every necklace and pair of earrings I have ever owned in my bag. Stop Shaheen! Does anyone else do this? I’m like ‘Oh this is the perfect time to bust this out’ Chances are if I haven’t worn it in 6 months, I won’t on vacation either! As far as beach accessories, I have reformed from my college days of packing a swim suit for every day of vacation. Now, I try to pack one possibly two classic swimsuits like this black one I picked up from Marshalls. This way you can reuse it and not stand out!

Never Forget Sunscreen

Even if you aren’t going somewhere warm make sure to take some sunscreen to go. Coola is one of my favorite brands and I love how easy the spray goes on! Marshalls always has a ton of them which is nice so I can stock up!

Pack in Layers

Weather can be so unpredictable and even somewhere like Arizona that reaches 88 during the day has chilly morning and evenings. Make sure you pack light layers that won’t take a ton of room and can be reused with multiple outfits. I always like a casual jogger or boyfriend jean for travel, make sure to have a classic tee that can be reworked, a light camisole and always a classic sneaker.

Have Fun

Although you don’t want to over pack, allow yourself a few fun pieces you may get the chance to work into your vacation! I picked up this stripe peplum top and fun flats at Marshalls before my trip and was happy I threw them in my luggage. I ended up wearing both over and over again and can’t wait for it warm up a bit here so I can toss them on again.

  1. These are great tips. I always pack in layers for every trip, and I’m never disappointed when I get too cold because I already packed my jacket. I love that you want to bring all the accessories. I do that too sometimes, though I feel like I get a little better with every trip! Hope you have a great weekend!
